  • Labour and shift modelling
  • Master data governance across ERP and MES

Production operator dashboards

Design the screen an operator uses all shift.

  • POD types: work centre, order, operation
  • POD designer and plugins
  • Layout design for real shop floor use
  • Start, complete and confirm actions
  • Work instructions and document display
  • Touchscreen and device considerations
  • Multilingual and accessibility needs
  • Testing a POD with actual operators

Execution, data collection and quality

Capture what happens as it happens.

  • Tag configuration and subscriptions
  • Machine data to production events
  • Automatic confirmation from machines
  • Alarm and downtime capture
  • Edge deployment considerations
  • Troubleshooting a broken connection

SAP MII in hybrid landscapes

Work with the installed base, not just greenfield.

  • MII architecture and components
  • Transactions and BLS logic
  • MII queries and data servers
  • Visualisation and dashboards in MII
  • MII as an integration layer
  • Migration considerations from MII to DMC
  • Coexistence patterns

Analytics, ERP integration and operations

Measure performance and keep ERP correct.

  • Production performance and OEE
  • Downtime and loss analysis
  • Cycle time and throughput reporting
  • Order and confirmation integration to S/4HANA
  • Goods movement posting from the floor
  • Error handling in integration
  • Monitoring the integration layer
  • Daily operational routine in manufacturing IT

Projects you will build

Shop floor model and POD

Model a work centre with operations and a shop floor routing, then design a POD and run an order through start, data collection and completion.

Quality and traceability

Configure in-process inspection and non-conformance codes, record a defect with rework, and produce a genealogy record for a finished unit.

Connectivity and integration

Configure a machine data connection to generate automatic confirmations, then trace the confirmation and goods movement into S/4HANA and handle an integration failure.

Tools you will use

Digital Manufacturing cloud
Plant modelling, routings, PODs and execution.
POD designer
Operator dashboard layout and plugin configuration.
Plant Connectivity
Machine and equipment data integration.
SAP MII
Transactions, queries and dashboards in hybrid landscapes.
Production performance analytics
OEE, downtime and throughput reporting.
ERP integration monitoring
Order, confirmation and goods movement flows to S/4HANA.

Certification

Exam
SAP delivers Digital Manufacturing certification through its product learning journeys rather than a long-standing C_ series exam. We prepare you against the current SAP Digital Manufacturing learning path and note the S/4HANA manufacturing exam as an adjacent credential.

What learners say

POD design sounds trivial until you watch an operator use a bad one. Designing for the floor rather than for a demo was the lesson.

Arvind K., SAP DMC Consultant

The MII coexistence module was the reason I chose this course. We are not ripping out MII and nobody else discusses that honestly.

Peter S., Manufacturing IT Lead

Machine connectivity finally demystified. Understanding OPC UA at a working level changed the conversations I can have with automation engineers.

Meghna R., SAP PP Consultant

What a day looks like

Line support
Something on the floor is blocked, and production stopping makes it the highest priority in the building.
Integration errors
Confirmations or goods movements that did not reach ERP, which corrupts stock and costing.
Connectivity issues
A machine connection that dropped, usually a tag, certificate or network change.
POD changes
Operators asking for a screen change, which is small work with large adoption impact.
Performance analysis
OEE and downtime reporting for plant management, plus finding the real loss driver.

Frequently asked questions

Is there a Digital Manufacturing certification?

SAP delivers it through product learning journeys rather than a long-standing C_ series exam. We prepare you against the current learning path and note the S/4HANA manufacturing exam as an adjacent credential, rather than citing a code we cannot stand behind.

Does this cover MII or DMC?

Both. DMC is the strategic product and gets the majority of the course; MII has a large installed base and a full module, because real landscapes are hybrid.

Do I need automation or OT knowledge?

Not in advance. We teach connectivity concepts including OPC UA to a working level. If you already have OT experience, you are unusually well placed.

How does this relate to PP/DS?

PP/DS plans and schedules; Digital Manufacturing executes on the floor and confirms back. They are adjacent layers and pair well.

Is third party MES integration covered?

At architecture level, since many plants run non-SAP MES. The integration patterns and boundaries are covered even though the product focus is SAP.

Is there hands-on access?

Yes, for plant modelling, POD design, execution, quality and integration across all three projects.
