Learn the framework and where it actually helps rather than treating it as documentation overhead.

  • The three pillars: best practices, guided configuration, methodology
  • Activate phases and their purpose
  • Deliverables, accelerators and the roadmap viewer
  • Transition paths: new implementation, conversion, selective
  • Cloud versus on-premise variations
  • Roles in an Activate project
  • Quality gates and their criteria

  • Test management and defect triage
  • Data migration workstream planning
  • Data quality and reconciliation ownership
  • Integration workstream and interface inventory
  • Security and authorisations workstream
  • Training and change management
  • Third-party and vendor coordination

Get from a working test system to a live business.

Projects you will build

Project plan and governance pack

Build a full Activate-aligned plan for a mid-size implementation: phases, deliverables, quality gates, workstreams, resources and the governance model.

Fit-to-standard and backlog

Facilitate a workshop, capture gaps as backlog items with acceptance criteria, prioritise them and produce a realistic delta estimate.

Cutover and go-live readiness

Produce a cutover runbook with rehearsals, a go or no-go criteria set and a hypercare model, then defend the go-live decision in a mock steering committee.

Tools you will use

SAP Activate roadmap viewer
Phases, deliverables and accelerators, the reference every Activate project plans against.
Backlog and sprint tooling
Managing requirements, deltas and sprints in an ERP delivery context.
Test management
Test planning, execution tracking and defect triage across cycles.
Cutover runbook
Task-level planning with owners, timings and dependencies for go-live weekend.
Risk and issue register
The discipline behind steering committee reporting and escalation.

Implementation and operations management for cloud-centric projects, used in place of Solution Manager.

What learners say

I had run projects for years but not SAP projects. The phase and quality gate structure plus the cutover module were exactly the gap.

Deepak S., SAP Project Manager

Agile in an ERP context is usually hand-waved. Here the dependency and data migration reality was handled honestly.

Julia M., Delivery Lead

The go or no-go criteria exercise changed how I run readiness assessments.

Ashok R., Programme Manager

What a day looks like

Standup round
Workstream leads report progress and impediments; the PM's job is to remove blockers, not to collect status.
Backlog and scope
Assessing new requirements for impact and deciding what is in, out, or deferred to a later release.
Risk review
Working the register with owners and escalating anything without a credible mitigation.
Stakeholder management
Preparing steering material and having the difficult conversation early rather than at the gate.
Planning
Refining the plan toward the next quality gate, with particular attention to data, testing and cutover.

Frequently asked questions

Is this a configuration course?

No. It is methodology and project management. You will not configure a module. It suits people managing or leading delivery rather than building it.

Do I need SAP experience?

Yes, some. You do not need to be a consultant, but you should have been on an SAP project or be about to run one, otherwise the phases are abstract.

Does it cover both cloud and on-premise?

Yes. Activate applies to new implementation, system conversion and cloud, and we cover how the phases and deliverables differ across all three.

Is Activate compatible with agile?

Yes, Activate is designed around iterative delivery. We cover sprints, backlogs and the places where ERP dependencies force a more sequential approach.

Which certification does this map to?

The SAP Certified Associate SAP Activate Project Manager exam. Confirm the current code with SAP before booking.

Is there practical work?

Yes, three deliverable-based projects: a governance pack, a fit-to-standard backlog and a cutover readiness pack, all in the format real programmes use.
