What is SAP Analytics Cloud Training (Reporting, Dashboards & Planning)?

SAP Analytics Cloud training teaches you to build reporting, dashboards and planning on SAP's cloud analytics platform. You configure live and import connections to S/4HANA, Datasphere and BW, build models with dimensions, hierarchies and measures, create stories with charts, tables and geo maps, write calculations and restricted measures, implement planning with versions, data actions and allocations, use predictive scenarios and smart features, build guided applications in Analytics Designer, and manage security and publication.

What you get

  • Connect SAC to S/4HANA, Datasphere and non-SAP sources

Curriculum

SAC foundations and connections

Set the platform up correctly, because the connection choice constrains everything after it.

  • SAC capabilities: BI, planning, predictive
  • Tenant setup, users and teams
  • Live versus import connections and their trade-offs
  • Connecting to S/4HANA embedded analytics
  • Connecting to Datasphere and BW
  • Connecting to non-SAP sources
  • Data acquisition and scheduling
  • Governance of connections

Modelling in SAC

Build models that support the analysis you need.

  • Model types: analytic and planning
  • Dimensions, measures and attributes
  • Hierarchies: level based and parent child
  • Currency conversion and units
  • Model preferences and data locking
  • Data wrangling and transformation on import
  • Public versus private dimensions
  • Model performance considerations

Stories and visualisation

Build the artefacts users actually open.

  • Story structure: pages, sections, responsive layout
  • Chart types and when each is appropriate
  • Tables, cross tabs and drill behaviour
  • Filters, input controls and linked analysis
  • Geo maps and location data
  • Conditional formatting and thresholds
  • Story design principles for readability
  • Mobile and responsive design

Calculations and analysis

Answer the questions the raw model does not.

  • Calculated and restricted measures
  • Aggregation, exception aggregation and context
  • Time-based calculations and variance
  • Rolling and cumulative measures
  • Cross calculations
  • Formula editor patterns
  • Handling null and division cases
  • Debugging a wrong number methodically

Planning

Use SAC as a planning tool, which is where much of its differentiation lies.

  • Planning models and versions
  • Public and private versions and version management
  • Data entry, spreading and distribution
  • Data actions and advanced formulas
  • Allocation processes
  • Calendar, tasks and workflow
  • Value driver trees
  • Integration with financial planning processes

Predictive and smart features

Add forecasting and augmented analytics without a data science team.

  • Smart Insights and Smart Discovery
  • Search to Insight
  • Predictive scenarios: classification, regression, time series
  • Training and validating a predictive model
  • Applying predictions in a story
  • Just Ask and natural language querying
  • Explaining predictions to the business
  • Limits of automated analytics

Analytics Designer, security and deployment

Move from a story to a governed application in production.

  • Analytics Designer applications and scripting basics
  • Widgets, events and popups
  • When an application beats a story
  • Roles, teams and object sharing
  • Data access control and row-level security
  • Scheduling, publication and distribution
  • Content transport between tenants
  • Adoption and performance monitoring

Projects you will build

Executive dashboard

Build a responsive story on a live connection with KPIs, variance analysis, drill-down and geo visualisation, designed to be readable in under ten seconds.

Planning application

Create a planning model with versions, build a data entry story with spreading, and implement a data action and an allocation for cost distribution.

Predictive forecast

Train a time series predictive scenario on historical data, evaluate its quality and present the forecast alongside actuals in a story.

Tools you will use

Story designer
Charts, tables, filters and layout. The tool you spend most of your time in.
Modeler
Analytic and planning model creation, dimensions, hierarchies and currency.
Data actions and allocations
The planning engine: advanced formulas, spreading and distribution.
Analytics Designer
Scripted analytic applications for guided, interactive use cases.
Predictive scenarios
Time series, classification and regression models with quality metrics.
Security and sharing
Roles, teams, data access control and content transport.

What learners say

The planning module is what set this apart. Data actions and allocations are where the real client work is.

Pallavi S., SAC Consultant

Live versus import was explained properly, with the consequences. That decision had been causing us performance pain for a year.

Thomas R., BI Analyst

Analytics Designer was a revelation. We replaced three fragile stories with one guided application.

Neeraj B., Analytics Lead

What a day looks like

Dashboard requests
A new KPI, a filter that behaves oddly, or a chart the business says is wrong (usually an aggregation question).
Model work
Adding a dimension or a calculation, or fixing a hierarchy that does not roll up as expected.
Planning cycle support
During planning season, supporting data entry, running data actions and unblocking version issues.
Performance
Investigating a slow story, which is often a live connection design issue rather than SAC itself.
Enablement
Training power users so they can build their own stories instead of queuing behind you.

Frequently asked questions

Is SAC only for SAP data?

No, it connects to non-SAP sources too, but its strength is live connectivity to S/4HANA, BW and Datasphere without moving the data.

Live or import connection, which is better?

Live keeps data in the source and avoids duplication; import allows more modelling flexibility and some features that live connections restrict. We cover the trade-off explicitly because it is the most consequential early decision.

Do I need Datasphere or BW knowledge?

Not to start. SAC can consume S/4HANA embedded analytics directly. For enterprise-scale reporting a data layer usually exists, and our Datasphere course covers that side.

Is the planning capability worth learning?

Yes. It is a genuine differentiator and where much of the SAC consulting demand sits, especially in finance.

Which certification does this prepare me for?

The SAP Certified Associate Data Analyst exam for SAP Analytics Cloud. Confirm the current code before booking.

Is there tenant access?

Yes, a practice tenant for modelling, stories, planning and predictive exercises.
