SAP Learning path
A good SAP learning path takes you from business and system fundamentals, through a chosen specialisation, to hands-on practice and certification. Trying to learn everything at once is the most common way to stall, so this page gives a deliberate sequence.
The SAP learning path runs in four stages: foundations, what SAP is, ERP, the landscape, architecture and navigation; choosing a track, functional in a module, technical in ABAP, Fiori and HANA, or Basis and security; going hands-on in a trial or training system through labs and examples; then certification and specialising toward S/4HANA and architecture.

Stage 1: Foundations
Start with what SAP is, ERP fundamentals, the landscape and architecture, and navigation. This gives you the shared vocabulary and mental model that every specialisation builds on, covered in the Getting Started and Fundamentals modules of this course.
Stage 2: Choose a track
- Functional: pick a module (FI, MM, SD, PP…) and learn its processes, configuration and integration points.
- Technical: learn ABAP, then Fiori/UI5, HANA and integration.
- Basis/Security: learn installation, administration, transports and authorizations.
Stage 3: Go hands-on
Knowledge only sticks with practice. Use a trial or training system to run transactions, do configuration, or write code. The labs, examples and how-to modules are built for this.
Stage 4: Certify and specialise
Once you can work confidently, pursue the relevant SAP certification and deepen toward S/4HANA and, eventually, architecture. The certification and career modules cover the specifics.
Common pitfalls
- No specialisation, "learning SAP" in general leads nowhere; pick a track.
- Theory without a system, hands-on practice is non-negotiable.
- Skipping fundamentals, they make everything else easier.
