SAP MM03
MM03 is the SAP transaction code for Display Material (MM). It displays a material master read-only, for reviewing any view’s data (basic, purchasing, sales, MRP, accounting) without changing it.
Quick answer
MM03 displays a material master read-only, for reviewing any view’s data (basic, purchasing, sales, MRP, accounting) without changing it.
Key takeaways
- Safe way to investigate material data.
- Watch out: basic data exists for everything; whether a material is usable depends on its views.
Purpose
It displays a material master read-only, for reviewing any view’s data (basic, purchasing, sales, MRP, accounting) without changing it.
Key fields and screen
- Material number.
- Views and organizational levels to display.
- Read-only view data.
- Where the material is extended (plants, sales areas).
Tips
- Use it to check which views/plants a material has.
- Safe way to investigate material data.
- From accounting view, see valuation and price.
Common errors
- (Display only.)
- Material not extended to the plant/sales area you check.
- Missing display authorization.
Common pitfalls
- Looking at the wrong organisational level. A material can be complete in one plant and absent in another, and the display defaults do not tell you which one you are seeing.
- Reading basic data and concluding the material is usable. Basic data exists for every material; whether it can be bought, sold or made depends on views you have not opened.
- Taking the accounting view price as what a movement will post. Price control decides that, and a standard price and a moving average behave differently.
- Reporting a problem without checking which views exist. Half of all "the material does not work" reports are a missing view.
- Using it to check stock. It shows master data. MMBE shows stock, and they answer different questions.
