Storage location
A storage location is the organizational unit that identifies where stock physically sits within a plant. It is the most granular level of inventory management in standard SAP MM (below plant), and it appears on nearly every goods movement.
Storage locations are simple to define (per plant) but should reflect how the warehouse actually operates.
- Within a plant, a storage location is a distinct stock area, for example raw materials, finished goods, or a specific shelf area.
- Standard MM tracks stock to storage-location level.
- On goods receipts and issues (where stock enters or leaves).
- Watch out: Confusing storage location with WM bins, different levels of detail.

Storage location vs warehouse management
Standard MM tracks stock to storage-location level. For finer, bin-level control, organisations use Warehouse Management (WM) or Extended Warehouse Management (EWM), which sit on top and manage the detailed layout within a storage location.
