A sandbox is a safe, low-stakes environment where you can experiment with SailPoint concepts, configure a mock source, aggregate, build a role, run a request, without any risk to production or real systems. It is the single most effective learning tool, because identity governance is best understood by doing, not just reading.
What to practise
- Aggregation and correlation, load a synthetic source and watch cubes form.
- Role building, model a business role and assign it.
- Access requests and approvals, run the request flow end to end.
- Certifications, generate a small campaign and make decisions.
- Rules, write a simple correlation or build-map rule and see its effect.
How to use the sandbox with this course
After each concept you learn, reproduce it in the sandbox. Read about aggregation, then aggregate. Read about certifications, then run one. This loop of learn-then-do is what turns abstract understanding into skills you can put on a resume.
Why a sandbox matters
You cannot break production, so you are free to experiment, make mistakes, and see what happens when things go wrong, which is often the fastest way to understand how they work. Populate it with synthetic datasets so it feels realistic without any data risk.
Common pitfalls
