Deployment model is the first fork
Oracle Fusion is public cloud only, with quarterly updates applied on Oracle's schedule. That removes upgrade projects but constrains how far you may diverge from standard.
SAP still supports on-premise and private cloud, which regulated manufacturers and defence suppliers often require. It also means SAP customers can defer upgrades in ways Fusion customers cannot, for better and worse.
Where each genuinely leads
SAP leads in production planning, detailed scheduling, extended warehouse management and integrated business planning. If your business converts materials into products, the depth is real and hard to replicate.
Oracle leads on breadth of a single cloud suite: ERP, HCM, SCM and CX on one data model with one update cycle, which is attractive when finance and HR are the centre of gravity.
Cost and effort in practice
Neither is cheap. SAP implementations carry more configuration effort and more custom code risk; Fusion implementations carry more process-change effort because standardisation is less negotiable.
The honest comparison is total cost over five years including the update cadence, not licence price at signature.

SAP, in most evaluations. PP, PP-DS, EWM and the process industry solutions are deeper, and the integration between planning and execution is more mature. Oracle is competitive in lighter assembly and distribution scenarios.
Can you run SAP finance with Oracle HCM?
Yes, and it is common. Split-suite estates work when the integration is treated as a first-class project with clear master data ownership, usually employee master from HCM into SAP as the source of record for cost assignment.
Which certification is worth more in India?
SAP, on volume of roles. S/4HANA functional and technical certifications appear in far more postings than Oracle Fusion equivalents, though Oracle Fusion finance and HCM consultants are scarce enough to command strong rates.
