SAP Groups
Fiori groups (and, in newer launchpads, pages and spaces) arrange the tiles a user sees by default on the launchpad. Where catalogs define what is available, groups define what is shown and how it is organised.
A Fiori group is a titled collection of tiles on the launchpad home, a Purchasing group with the tiles a buyer uses, for example. A role references catalogs for what a user may launch and groups for what appears by default; newer launchpads use spaces and pages for the same purpose. Users layer favourites on top.

What a group does
A group is a titled collection of tiles displayed on the launchpad home, for example a "Purchasing" group with the tiles a buyer uses. Groups give structure to the home page so users find their apps quickly, rather than facing an unordered pile of tiles.
Groups vs spaces and pages
Classic launchpads use groups; newer ones use spaces and pages (a more structured, role-tailored layout). Both serve the same purpose, organising the tiles a role sees, with spaces/pages offering finer, role-based curation.
Groups, catalogs and roles
A role typically references both catalogs (what the user may launch) and groups (what appears by default). A well-designed role gives a buyer the purchasing catalog and a sensible purchasing group, so they open to a tidy, relevant home.
Personalisation on top
Users can add their own favourites and (depending on settings) rearrange, layering personal preference over the admin-provided groups.
Common pitfalls
- No default groups, users face an empty or messy home.
- Groups without matching catalogs, tiles that cannot launch.
- Ignoring spaces/pages in modern launchpads.
